It’s usually only when something starts to hurt and impacts on our day to day lives that we take notice of how we are doing certain things. How we sit at our desks, lift heavy bags of shopping in and out of the car, wear shoes that don’t support our feet properly or worse still actually change the gait of our walk. All of these things and more besides, add up over time, they have a cumulative effect. We can get away with these things for a while, but they will eventually catch up with us and only when we’re in pain, do we realise we have to radically change our lifestyles.
We all have an individual optimal alignment blueprint we were born with and we are all unique. We all have different body types and our lifestyles literally mould us into the people we have become. When we are shown how to practise yoga intelligently for our own body type, we can quite literally move from a place of ‘dis-ease’ back to a place of ‘ease’. We can once more go about our day to day activities with the physical freedom that we once had as children.
In this workshop you will learn about your own individual anatomy and body type. Why it is that you might struggle with some poses and find other poses fairly easy. You will learn various ways of achieving the same pose as taught by different schools of yoga. Above all you will come away from this workshop knowing how to do the poses safely and enjoyably. If you come with an open mind you will learn and laugh in equal measure.
This workshop is designed for practitioners and teachers of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga and other yoga styles.
Jock has been teaching for 15 years and co-founded Lime House Yoga in Cornwall with his partner Emma. His journey to yoga came after falling down a mountain snowboarding in 2000, breaking his back in four places and shattering his collarbone. After numerous unsuccessful operations he began a regular yoga practice that enabled him to heal from his injuries and astonished the medical practitioners who had tried and failed to put him back together!
He went on to train with Bridget Woods-Kramer, a world-renowned Anusara teacher with whom he spent six years studying and teaching. In the last three years his personal practice has moved towards Ashtanga and he’s undertaken teacher training with David Swenson and Manju Jois, from whom he received certification in 2017. He is one of John Scott’s senior teachers.
Jock teaches a strong, flowing practice with an emphasis on alignment, anatomy and fun! His experience has taught him to cherish the physical practice of yoga, but it is the connection between mind and body that inspires his practice.
The workshop price is £50, which includes 2h Ashtanga led session and 1h30 of the yoga alignment workshop.
