Throughout this course you will gain the skills and experience to teach restorative yoga, somatic, breath and meditation practices, with an awareness and sensitivity to stress and trauma. The course teaches you how to teach restorative yoga using props, understanding the benefits of each asana and learning how to sequence classes effectively. It also explores how to incorporate restorative asanas into a regular yoga class and when this may be suitable. 

You will learn about the stress response and how this impacts the rest of the body, understanding how restorative yoga can have such a positive impact on the whole body through The course also covers simple movement based practices, breathing and meditation that support the nervous system during times of stress. You will learn to identify which situations require a stiller approach and which benefit from more movement, both of which can be supportive of the nervous system. The course explores the impact of trauma and cautions when teaching, ensuring people are teaching in a way that maintains safety and inclusivity. 

 

The course will include study of:

  • The origins of restorative yoga
  • How to teach restorative yoga asanas, eg cues, props, adjustments
  • How to plan and sequence a restorative yoga class
  • Using restorative asanas in a regular yoga class
  • Understanding the stress response
  • Pranayama to help regulate the nervous system
  • Somatic and mindful movement to calm
  • The difference between stress and trauma
  • An awareness of trauma’s impact on the nervous system 
  • Cautions of teaching restorative, or any yoga, particularly in terms of trauma and mental health
  • Limitations as a yoga teacher and professional boundaries
